Gamified Self-Tracking: The Role of Motivation in Digital Health Engagement

Gamification has been widely adopted in digital health platforms to enhance user engagement in self-tracking activities. This study investigates how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation affect self-tracking frequency and engagement quality. Using a survey-based approach with 212 users of health tracking apps, results reveal that intrinsic motivation significantly predicts consistent engagement, while extrinsic elements like rewards boost short-term interaction. Implications for sustainable digital health behavior are discussed.
